Katie and Adrian
Posted: 07th Oct 2011
I was lucky enough to photograph Katie and Adrian's wedding in October. When Katie first got in touch I thought she was a distant relative as my maiden name was the same as her second name - Prentice. After some discussion we figured out we weren't related!
Katie and Adrian were getting married at Glenskirlie House near Glasgow. I have photographed at the house and castle many times so was looking forward to the day.
When I met up withe the couple before the wedding to discuss all the details of the day I found out that they met when they were teenagers so it had been a long romance.
My day started at Katie's parents house in Bishopbriggs. All the girls and Katie's Mum were getting ready when I arrived and Katie's Dad (the only man in a house of 6 females) was cracking open the champagne. Katie was in a stunning strapless gown with lace detail. It suited her slim shape so much. Was very jealous of her skinny waist!

I then arrived at the hotel to get shots of the men. The hotel looked great against the bluest sky I have seen in Scotland for ages. The weather was trully amazing especially considering how wet it has been this year.Got some good shots of the men arriving and all the guests from the bus. The ceremony was to be conducted by a registrar who told me I could do what I wanted during the ceremony (what a lovely woman).

After everyone was ushered in, Katies bridesmaids arived followed by Katie. I did some pictures at the front door but as it was such a sunny day it was a bit problematic as the sun shines on the front of the hotel. Sounds like I am moaning here but I can deal with the sun better then the wind and the rain. Katie and Adrian were having a rose ceremony where they exchanged red roses in the middle of the wedding. It was a lovely part of the ceremony. A few tears were shed including Katie's Mum which I managed to get a snap of. The two readings were by Katie's cousins. After the formalities were over the couple went outside for a wee confetti shot.

The couple then wanted to see their guests so it was a great opportunity for me to get some candid shots which I love to do. I then took the couple and their wedding party for some photographs around the grounds. I had to use that magnificant blue sky as much as I could. Such a rare things at Scottish weddings.

It was then off to do the group shot which I was a wee bit concerned about. Katie and Adrian has discussed with me that they really wanted a large group shot of all the guests, which consisted of over 100 people. It is a photograph I love to do. However, Glenskirlie House is on one level and does not have a large set of stairs which makes a large group shot difficult. I had previously phoned the hotel to see if they had a very large set of ladders which they said they did and that I could borrow on the day. There was only one place to set this up whcih was the back garden however I knew that the sun would be right in my face at the top of a huge set of ladders. In the end the group shot worked out fine which I was so pleased about.

Katie and Adrian has spoken to me about gertting pictures in the bridal suite of the castle. They had requested the cream room but as there was anothhr wedding going on in the castle they would only know if they could get this on the morning of the wedding. Luckily they got the room. I had heard of this marvellous room but never seen it. It was stunning. What a place to spend your wedding night!! I can now see why Katie and Adrian had wanted it so much.

We then returned to the hotel for the cutting of the cake and the start of the speeches. The speeches were great where we learned that Katie and Adrian actually met down the park as teenagers acording to Katies Dad. He sounded very proud of his wee girl. Adrian said the key phrase "On behalf of my wife and I " which got a huge cheer. Adrian's best man was his brother who did very well but let in a dirty joke at the end about a holiday place in Ireland. Not sure if the grannies got that one!

The couple had told me that their videographers Geewhizz were doing a perfect day shoot. I had never seen this before but it was hilarious. Basically the guests go in small groups and mime the words to Perfect Day by Lou Reed (the charity version). It really did keep everyone entertained at a time of the wedding where there is always a lull. The two Mums were hysterical as I don't think they were altogether looking forward to the experience but got on great. It was great to get all the shots of everyone having a go.

The time came for the first dance. I had been told that they were having a confetti bomb which again I had never seen. It was superb for the pictures and something I would recomend couples get for that added special effect for the first dance. There was then some ceilidh dancing which is fantastic for pictures. I had such a great time at Katie and Adian's wedding and was so glad they picked me for their photographer.
