Lorna and Colin

This month I photographed the wedding of Lorna and Colin at one of the most luxurious hotels in Glasgow - Hotel Du Vin which is still refered to by most people in Glasgow as One Devonshire Gardens. It was a beautifull winters day so I knew we were going to get shots outside which I was glad about as the exterior of the hotel is stunning. Lorna and Colin were both getting ready at the hotel which was great for me as I could photograph them both getting ready (separately of course). Lorna's room was gorgeous with a fantastic bay window which contained a bath. I have been in many of the bedrooms in the hotel before and they can be quite dark but Lorna's had loads of light thanks to a huge skylight.  So I floated between Lorna's and Colin's room to photograph the getting ready shots. Lorna was in a stunning gown which she got at Frasers and Colin's kilt was from slanj. Lorna's flowers were fantastic deep red roses from Stems and petal.

It was then time to go downstairs to the ceremony which was being performed by my old neighbour Susan Douglas Scott from the Humanist society. I love humanist weddings as they are so personal and you find out lots about the couple. Lorna and Colin both lit a candle as part of the ceremony which was a lovely part of the proceedings.

It was then outside for some group shots and some photographs with the bride and groom.

I then took the couple to the fantastic stained glass window inside the hotel and also to the gorgeous room that was booked for them.

We then went back to join the guests and spending time with them was important to the couple. There was a harpist there called Alina Bzhezhinska who played during the ceremony and the drinks reception. It really added to the atmosphere of the day.

It was then time for the speeches. I knew Colin was nervous about this as most grooms are. First to speak was Lorna's dad and then Colins best man who was his brother. Colin was last and he did really well but got a wee bit emotional in the middle. Lorna then took his speach and finished it off for him. I have to say it was one of the loveliest things I have ever seen between a bride and groom. It just showed that Lorna knew Colin so well that she just got up there and helped him out. I think everyone was emotional after that.

After the meal was finished and tables cleared it was time for the first dance. I was really looking forward to this as Lorna had told me that her band were Ernest. These guys are fantastic and I have never seen an empty dance floor when they have played. Their first dance was to "All you need is love" by The Beatles. After that the dance floor was full with arms in the air. I did one last shot of Lorna and Colin outside the hotel with it all lit up then they went inside to dance the night away.
