Alison and Alasdair
Posted: 28th Dec 2011
It was 3 days after Christmas and I was driving to one of the most luxurious hotels in Scotland - Mar Hall. The hotel is situated near Bishopton just outside Glasgow and overlooks the River Clyde. I was going to photograph the wedding of Alison and Alasdair. I was concerned on the drive over whether we would get outside at all for any pictures as the weather was wild, even for Scotland in December.I went first to Alison's room to photograph alll the preparations.

Aiison's hair was done by Maureen Crolla.

I then went downstairs to capture what Alasdair was up to. There was a little break in the rain so I got some shots outside- hurray!

It was then time for Alison to come down the stairs to where they were having the ceremony. It was being conducted by the huminist celebrant- Leslie Mitchell. I loved seeing Alison walking down the aisle, she had an emormous smile on her face. the picture I took of this turned out to be one of her favourite pictures.

I really like this next picture. It was during the ceremony and Alison and Alasdair just looked at each other and smiled.

After the ceremony the couple walked into the hall to champagne followed by their guests. I then took Alison and Alasdair to the large window in the hall which they were both keen to be photographed by. One of the images turned out to also be a favourite of the couple from seeing a similar image on my website.

Luck was on our side after doing photographs at the window- it stopped raining. So outside for some pictures. Not for long though as it was freezing and rather windy. We just got enough which was a result for December in Scotland.

When I though Alison and Alasdair were starting to look a bit blue I suggested going back inside to the beautifull warm hotel where the drinks reception was happening.

The time had come for the meal to start. The couples reception was in Morton House which is a beautifully decorated stone-built mansion constructed in 1919 and said to have been opened by Prince Albert. It is 20m from the main building of the hotel so all the guests walked over. This was a bit challenging for me as the light was getting low and the wind was very strong at this point. It took all my effort to try and stand still to take the pictures of the guests and couple coming over. Alison and Alasdair got a golf buggy over. It all made for some good pictures!

The meal was followed by speeches which were great. Alasdair's best man had hilarious tales of the grooms exploits after night's out which included getting barred from a burger van on Byres Road. Alison's Dad had a great story about her going to a festival with the Prodigy.

The couple then cut the cake which was made by Lynsey McLaughlin at Custom Cakes. After this was the first dance. The band were riffreshers. It was a lovely first dance with some great shots of the two Ali's (as they were referred to on the day). There were some even better shots of the other guests dancing. One of the couples favourite pictures was of their brother in law doing his "signature dance".

I had such a great day with Alison and Alasdair. They were such a lovely couple and so relaxed which made it a fantastic wedding. It was just like a fabulous post Christmas knees up. G xxx
