Sarah and Martin's wedding photography at Dumfries House

14th October 2018

It was going to be my first outing to the incredible Dumfries House in Ayrshire, for Sarah and Martin's wedding. I had never even visited it, but when I did go down to have a look before the wedding I was amazed!

It is located within a large estate, around 2 miles west of Cumnock. It is one of Britains most beautiful stately homes with much of its original 18th-century furniture still present, including specially commissioned Thomas Chippendale pieces. I couldn't believe that I was going to be allowed to take pictures there, it was stunning.

Sarah, her bridesmaids and Mum were getting ready in the house. I got to see the incredible bedrooms where they were getting hair and make up done. I got to use the toilet adjacent to the bedroom that Prince Charles sleeps in when he visits (apparently)! The rooms were amazing, such a dream to photograph.

Sarah's dress was beautiful and was from Anne Priscilla Bridal Glasgow. It just suited the location perfectly. Her bridesmaids were in  beautiful grey dresses and the red of the flowers which were supplied by Kirsties Flowers Troon complemented them perfectly.

The guests were starting to arrive along with Martin and his best man into the Entrance hall. Martin and his best man were in a beautiful grey and red tartan that was going to look great and supplied by Kilts4U Kilmarnock. The ceremony was going to be in the beautiful tapestry room.

When Sarah was ready her Dad walked her down the stairs through the pewter corridor and into the tapestry room. The ceremony was lovely with a hand fasting ceremony and then  all the dad's drinking from the quaich.

The couple then walked out onto the stairs at the front of the house for a large group shot. I couldn't believe what a great day it was and everyone was outside for the drinks reception. It was a very sunny day which was great for the guests but can be problematic for me so I had to find some shade for the family shots. I would rather deal with bright sun than wind and rain!

The guests were then treated to a tour of the house which included all of the incredible Chippendale furniture which is worth millions! While the tours were on, the Wedding co-ordinator , Evan,  took the couple and I on a ride in the estates Range Rover around the grounds for some pictures. There were so many locations to choose from it really was a photographers dream.

It was then time for the meal which  was to be held in the great Stewards dining room. While the guests were making their way to the dining room I got some lovely shots of Sarah and Martin on the elegant Buffet-Niche yellow chairs.

It was then time for the speeches which were fantastic. Sarah's Dad even produced a pair of Sarah's first walking shoes and cards that she had made as a child. Hilarious!

After the meal the evening guests started to arrive and were shown into The Dumfries House pavillion for the night time festivities. Sarah and Martins cake or should i say cakes were amazing and by The three sisters bake house. The dancing then started and it was a great atmosphere on the dance floor by the band Velvet Noir.

What an absolutly fantastic day! I can see why Sarah and Martin chose such a wonderful venue for their perfect wedding. It was such a joy to be able to photograph in such a beautiful house. I hope I will be back soon! G x
